Watch what happens when we challenge a good answer.
From a first impression to genuine literary analysis.
In this real Jool lesson on The Poet X, a student begins with a reasonable interpretation. Her teacher challenges her to go deeper, explain the writer's choices and support her ideas with evidence.

Inside the Jool Literature curriculum - Real books. Serious ideas. Actually FUN.
Our literature programme has been developed and refined through years of teaching ambitious students in South Korea and international schools around the world.
Rather than relying on generic worksheets, we create substantial original workbooks that connect active reading, academic vocabulary, discussion, literary concepts, creative challenges and analytical writing.
Here's what that looks like.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K Rowling
Jool Year 7 · Setting, atmosphere and authorial choices
A familiar story becomes an introduction to sophisticated literary analysis. Students investigate how J.K. Rowling changes the atmosphere of the wizarding world, collect textual evidence and explain why those choices matter to the reader. They move from simply describing a setting to understanding how a writer deliberately constructs meaning. Advanced skill: Setting & Exposition

Scythe by Neal Shusterman
Jool Year 8 · Literature meets moral philosophy
Imagine a society in which natural death has been conquered. Who should decide whether somebody must die? And how would we judge whether that decision was fair? Students explore consequentialism, deontology and virtue ethics, then apply these competing philosophical frameworks to the world of Neal Shusterman's novel. They must defend their reasoning, recognise objections and reach an independent judgement. Serious philosophy. A strange fictional world. Plenty of lively debate. Advanced skill: Ethical Reasoning & Evaluation

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
Jool Year 8 · Foreshadowing and narrative structure
Why does Kazuo Ishiguro deliberately leave readers uncertain about the world of his novel? Students track clues, unexplained vocabulary and carefully withheld information. They examine how these choices create unease and influence the reader's interpretation. Instead of simply asking what happened, we ask students to explain why the author wanted the reading experience to unfold that way. Advanced skill: Foreshadowing & Authorial Withholding

1984 by George Orwell
Jool Year 9 · Language, Power & Critical Thinking
Can changing the words people use actually change the way they think? Students explore Orwell's terrifying idea of Newspeak — a language designed to limit independent thought. But Jool doesn't stop at discussing the novel. Students design their own miniature language experiment, observe how people respond to unfamiliar meanings, and produce a reflective report connecting their findings to Orwell's ideas. They also explore propaganda, symbolism and the power of language to influence society. Literature becomes an investigation into language, psychology and political power. Advanced skills: Language Analysis · Critical Evaluation · Independent Research · Reflective Writing
Founded in Seoul. Built for bigger thinking.
Greater intellectual challenge, without sacrificing the joy of learning.
Jool was founded in South Korea in 2019, in one of the world's most academically ambitious education environments.
We embraced those high expectations. But we believed exceptional education should offer something more.
So we developed our own curriculum, bringing together advanced literature, fascinating ideas, lively discussion and expert personal teaching.
Refined through years of working with ambitious students in South Korea and international schools, our approach combines academic rigour with curiosity, creativity and laughter.
Now, we're bringing that same ambition — and joy — to families across Britain and beyond.
Smart. Silly. Seriously ahead.
