📚 Grade 5/Year 6 Literature Plan

Grade 5/Year 6 (UK): Transition to Teen Fiction and Classic Literature
 

Jool: Year 6 marks a transition to more mature literature with books like
Animal Farm and To Kill A Mockingbird. Students are exposed to important historical and political themes while also enjoying imaginative works like Life of Pi and The Owl Service. The goal is to foster more widely read and experienced literature students.
 

U.S/UK Equivalent: These texts are typically introduced in Year 9 as
students prepare for more advanced literary analysis.


Gap: 3 years ahead.

Textbook: Super Simple Physics & Super Simple Biology
 

Focus: Further deepen understanding of both physics and biology.

• Electricity (circuits, currents, resistors)

• Forces and motion (Newton’s laws)
 

Key Topics in biology:

• Photosynthesis and plant biology

• Cell structure and functions

• Human body systems (respiratory, circulatory, reproductive)
 

Goal: Solidify understanding of physics concepts while introducing early
chemistry.

Grade5/Year 6: The Modern Age
 

Textbook: Story of the World 4 by Susan Wise Bauer
 

Focus: Year 6 covers modern history from the Industrial Revolution to the
post-World War II era.
 

Key Topics:

• The American, French, and Industrial Revolutions

• Imperialism and the world wars

• The Cold War and the rise of globalism
 

Goal: Build an understanding of how modern history influences today’s
political, economic, and social structures.
