The Jool Story
I was the child who wanted more from school.
I'm James, founder and Principal of Jool Education.
Growing up, I was curious, imaginative and full of questions. I loved big ideas, unusual problems and discovering how the world worked.
But I didn't always feel challenged at school.
I knew what it was like to finish the work, look around the classroom and wonder: Is this really all we're going to learn?
Years later, when I began teaching in South Korea, I encountered a different kind of academic ambition.
Eight-year-olds exploring ethics. Ten-year-olds tackling Shakespeare. Young students discussing complex ideas with remarkable confidence.
It challenged my assumptions about what children could achieve — and how early they could achieve it.
But I also saw the pressures that can come with an education system built around high expectations.
And that left me with a question.
What if we could combine extraordinary academic ambition with the curiosity, creativity and happiness that make children love learning?
That question became a mission.
In 2019, that mission became Jool.
Elite. Happy. Brilliant.
I didn't want Jool to become another place where children simply worked harder, completed more worksheets or prepared for the next examination.
I wanted to build an education where students could encounter sophisticated ideas earlier, develop genuine intellectual confidence and look forward to every lesson.
So we began developing our own curriculum — combining exceptional literature, philosophy, critical thinking, academic writing and lively discussion.
Our teachers challenge students to think beyond their first answers, defend their opinions and discover what they're capable of.
And we make room for humour, imagination, unexpected questions and the occasional wonderfully ridiculous idea.
Because academic excellence and the joy of learning should never be opposites.

Since 2019, we've continued developing our curriculum and teaching approach through working with students in South Korea and international schools around the world.
Today, we're bringing that same philosophy to families across Britain and beyond.
